Rip the Calico is a high energy contra dance band from North Carolina. Drawing heavily from Celtic influences (and origins), the “Calicos” will take you on a dance journey from dulcet circlings to mad romps across the dance floor.
“You guys killed it. Hands down the best trad session I have seen down here in 11 years.” – Malachy Noone, Bull McCabe’s Irish Pub
“I’ve worked with hundreds of dance bands and Rip The Calico is one of the best. Their music is interesting and high energy without sacrificing any of the elements that dancers need like good phrasing, great tempos and a solid beat. Some bands give dancers what they need. Other bands give dancers what they want. Rip the Calico gives them both!” – Tom Hinds, caller
“I really enjoyed working with you folks… kept my feet tapping every second… Really raised the roof!” – Simon Spalding, caller
“What a privilege it was to work with you guys in your Richmond debut! You made a lasting impression on the TADAMS dancers, and on me too.” – Ben Allbrandt, caller
At Glen Echo Park
We recently recorded a medley of tunes for the Tríonóide Academy of Irish Dance for a youth dance competition. Have a listen. You’ll hear breaks that will be filled in by the tapping of these fine young dancers.
